Gender Gap in Virginia Larger than National Gap
Report shows the higher the income, the wider the gap
The report compares men’s and women’s median hourly wage and median income in Virginia, the South Atlantic region, and the United States and finds that Virginia has a persistently larger gender pay gap than the region or country as a whole. The gap widens as incomes and education levels increase.
The report also looks at the gender pay gap within specific occupations and industries, and compares men and women of similar educational and income groups.
According to a report by The Commonwealth Institute for Fiscal Analysis,
women in Virginia earn an average of just 81 cents for every dollar men earn, and this difference is larger than in most other states.
