Good health is critical to our well-being, and access to health coverage shouldn’t depend on where you live or how much money you make.
Virginia’s historic choice in 2018 to expand Medicaid has provided a critical safety net for hundreds of thousands of people across the commonwealth. Unfortunately, advocates’ hard-won victory is now in jeopardy because of federal discussions to cut Medicaid funding. Current state budget language means any federal cuts to Medicaid expansion would lead to Virginia automatically disenrolling everyone who has health care access through expansion. That’s over 630,000 people in Virginia whose coverage would be disrupted.
Thankfully, the Virginia Senate included language in their recent budget proposal that would require a joint subcommittee to meet and consider options to protect health care access if federal funding for expansion is reduced.
Your voice matters. Tell budget negotiators to include this proposal in their final budget and consider our options before over 630,000 people are automatically disenrolled from health care coverage!
