Special Session: Comparing the governor’s, House, and General Assembly budgets to the FY 2018 budget

With no agreement on the budget during the regular legislative session, Virginia lawmakers began a special session on April 11. The governor re-introduced the prior governor’s budget proposal with one change, and the House of Delegates passed amendments to that proposal on April 16. On May 30, the Senate rejected budget amendments approved by the Senate Finance Committee and approved a floor substitute. This substitute budget was adopted by both the Senate and House of Delegates.

In December 2018, Governor Terry McAuliffe released a proposal for the 2018-2020 budget (FYs 2019 and 2020) and amendments to the FY 2018 budget for the House and Senate to consider.
