K-12 Funding Trends At-a-Glance: Data for Statewide and All 132 School Divisions (2022)

Virginia schools had fewer staff during the 2020-2021 school year than they did during the 2008-2009 school year despite having 16,439 more students. And schools are reliant on local governments for funding with localities spending $4.2 billion more than the state required.

Those are just a few of the key findings summarized by The Commonwealth Institute’s latest analysis of K-12 data. Check out our statewide and rural schools summaries below, as well as all individual school divisions.

Note: Large fluctuations in enrollment data for Richmond City and Radford City public schools likely due to enrollment in virtual academies. Enrollment has been unstable throughout the pandemic.
